Back in the 1950's, way before Stonewall, Atlantic City had a very prominent gay presence. Then in 1978, when gambling was legalized, came the casinos, one after the other. Then in the 1990's came Donald Trump with his mega-casinos. And then the gay somehow went away.
Some might argue that the city is experiencing a gay renaissance, however.
In February 2007, the New Jersey Civil Union law went into effect and since then, Atlantic City, seeing pink dollars up for grabs, has offered an accommodating experience to those same-sex couples who wish to hold their ceremony by the Jersey shore and enjoy all the resort town has to offer.
Despite the fact that only one gay bar (Westside Bar & Lounge) remains, the city's most happening clubs and lounges are often cluttered with cuties. The fabulous crowd, gay and straight, rush to the clubs at the Borgata, MIXX and Mur Mur. The Chelsea is the epitome of chic, so it's no wonder that C5, the club on the 5th floor, is also a popular spot for guys & girls craving cocktails. And the new Dusk nightclub features the DJ, the dancing and the drinks we've grown accustomed to.
Did we mention Atlantic City offers the best casinos on the East Coast? It's also convenient to prominent gay hubs: Atlantic City is 60 miles from Philadelphia, 125 miles from New York, and 175 miles from Washington, DC.
